How to leave your ‘Inner Loser’ behind… and travel the ‘road trip’ to success

by Craig Perrine

Of all the things I’ve posted about on this blog… my big truck and my RV road trip this summer have gotten the most fun feedback.

I’ve had a ton of emails from fellow RV fans… so as promised I’m posting the pictures of my new RV.

It arrived yesterday… 5 hours early… from a dealer in Michigan that I found on eBay. If you are in the market for an RV, let me know. I am very happy with the folks I found.

As you can see… the 38 foot RV and the truck appear to be bigger than my house and SUV combined.

Yeah, I actually bought something on wheels that is bigger than my Ford F250 truck… believe it or not.

This is a ‘toy hauler’ RV which means that the back opens up as a ramp that leads to a 12 foot garage. You’re supposed to put motorcycles and stuff in there… but we ordered a custom model that has two queen size bunk beds that retract up to the ceiling when not in use. It’s air conditioned and heated back there, so the kids will use the garage in the RV as their playroom since we don’t have any motorcycles (yet :) ).

Over the garage is a queen size loft… which my two older boys (Sam, 14, Ethan, 9) are already fighting over.

In the middle there’s a spacious livingroom and kitchen with a table that I’ll be using for my laptop while we’re on the road this summer. That’s right… I’ll be posting to this blog, hopefully with video and audio from the trip.

The master bedroom is up front… in another room. This thing will sleep 12 comfortably (if they all get along).

We’re hitting the road around the 26th of May… after I speak at my last workshop this weekend.

That’s right… you won’t see me on stage again until the fall… I’m going underground to finish up some projects I’ve been hinting at… that I’ll tell you about soon.

These last few weeks have been super crazy… with me speaking at a different seminar each weekend… and one weekend where I spoke saturday at one event in Austin and another in Atlanta the next morning.

Both events were awesome… (Pat OBryan’s Unseminar and The Next Level Promoters event with Armand Morin, Heather Seitz and Debra Thompson).

This past weekend in Dallas I spoke at the No Limits Seminar put on by Robert Puddy and Richard Taylor… and as with their first seminar last November, this one was well worth attending. The hotseats alone were worth the ticket price.

It’s been a crazy 8 weeks and I could go on and on about each event… starting with the alwasy incredible Big Seminar 7 and the AM2 Platinum meeting I went to in late April… though right now it’s all blurring together in my mind. Stories for another time.

Right now I want to brag on a book that I contributed a chapter to that is launching today.

I’m so honored to be in a book with names like Joe Vitale, Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, Jim Rohn and Denis Waitley (among many other amazing authors).

Take a look at ‘101 Great Ways To Improve Your Life’ by David Riklan

I’ve dragged my advance copy with me and read it at every chance. It’s dog eared and full of underlined passages with notes on the side… Each author has had a message for me… something I either didn’t know before, or had not fully considered yet… or something I needed to be reminded of again.

See, this whole RV trip and the changes that have happened in my life over the last few years are as much because of ’self growth’ as they are about marketing successes.

There have been many times in my life that I simply would not have been able to imagine the life I’m leading…

My parents divorced… yet I’ve been with my wife now for ten years.

Our house is fully twice the size the first one we lived in when we got together… and that RV in front is bigger than my first apartment.

I’ve never been in a position to take off 4 plus weeks with my family… and yet in less than ten days that is exactly what I’m going to do.

I say this because while I’ve been on a bumpy path of self improvement since at least the age of 15 when I met Tony Robbins at an awesome summer camp called Supercamp in 1985… on some level I don’t think I truly understood how much my life could change until this RV trip.

I had to see it to believe it…

If you wait to see proof before you believe something, however, that is a much slower way to change than to believe what you want is possible first and THEN watch for the change to manifest itself.

The culprit that makes us hold back and be so skeptical of change is a little voice inside each of us that I’ve named ‘The Inner Loser’.

While well meaning, this little voice is the voice of fear, of playing life safe so you don’t lose… but playing ‘not to lose’ is a lot different than ‘playing to win’.

Too often we are faced with an opportunity to reach for the next level or taste happiness and we shy away, fearing that the unknown will bring something worse than what we already are comfortable with.

Many confuse the ‘Inner Loser’ voice of fear with ‘Intuition’, that quiet voice we often won’t listen to… even though it is your Intuition that is divinely inspired and can take you anywhere you wish to go in life.

The trick is knowing and feeling the difference between the two voices… and that’s exactly what I talk about in my chapter in ‘101 Great Ways To Improve Your Life’ by David Riklan.

Personally, I think that if you are currently letting your life be run by your Inner Loser… it won’t really matter how much you learn about marketing online (or anywhere else) because that little voice of fear will shout out any breakthrough opportunity you come across.

Back in the 90’s, I read a lot of the ‘gloom and doom’ experts that said the US economy was going to collapse in 1995 and that the stock market was due for a major crash. I believed them wholeheartedly.

Well, those same ‘experts’ got to be ‘right’ when the stock market did sell off in 2000 to 2002… but I missed out on 6 years of the greatest bull market in US history because I listened to them and my Inner Loser and I waited for the crash.

Sure, I made great money as a day trader for those years… but I could have made a fortune simply by investing in a mutual fund, too.

It still makes me ill to think of missing what could be the greatest market move of my entire life to this day.

And that’s just one example of a big loss I took in my business because of listening to the voice of fear instead of taking chances and going for it.

Your Inner Loser is just like those stock market experts… no matter how much good you miss out on by sitting life ‘out’, the next time something bad happens that you avoided the Inner Loser will take credit for ‘protecting you’… and you’ll believe it, too.

Until you are aware of this ‘Inner Loser’ and take charge… your life go around and around in circles… like a ‘merry-go-round’ of misery.

So, while I continue to feed my brain all the marketing info I can stuff in my head… I also make sure I learn as much as I can about myself and what makes ME tick so I can be ready for the opportunities and challenges that come along in this journey through life.

Every new level I achieve comes with it’s own barriers that come up for me… and I have to break through them to continue moving forward.

And what I’ve discovered is this:

Wherever you are at in your climb to the next level of your success… 90% of what is holding you back is yourself.

Same is true for me… for anyone. That is basically how you can explain the reason some are successful in spite of all odds… while others, with as many or more natural gifts, are stuck as couch potatos watching other people’s lives on ‘Reality TV’ while complaining that their life sucks.

There are many out there claiming to have the answer… and I suggest you sample different authors and dig deeper with those who you relate to.

You may find the perfect mentor for you… and fill in a missing key to something about yourself that is holding you back.

With that said… I suggest you grab a copy of David Riklan’s latest book because he’s drawn on his own tremendous success and pulled together a wonderful selection of authors for you to feed your brain what really works.

There are 101 different voices for you to sample right in this book… including my chapter on how to handle your Inner Loser.

To top it all off… the book is an incredible deal so definitely consider getting multiple copies for friends and family, too.

Go to: http://www.maverickmarketer.com/innerloser and you’ll also get $1,500 in REAL bonuses that those who buy this book in stores will miss out on.

And if perhaps your ‘Inner Loser’ tries to talk you out of getting a copy… buy two just to show who’s in charge of your life :)

As always, an awesome post as well. I’m looking forward to reading that book, too.

You certainly have chosen the perfect name for what always holds one back from success: the ‘Inner Loser’. It’s perfect!
